Important Milestones I Depack Design


In 2016, I joined Depack – an integrated agency, part of the FG Design Group, specialising in exhibition and retail design for global lifestyle brands – with the strategic intent to further develop its presence in Asia. The main goals were to turn the office that was set up in Hong Kong a few years previously into an independent regional office and add more big industry players to the portfolio, by strengthening the supplier network and range of services, and becoming accredited to work at airports in the region.

After having been introduced to the teams in France and further developed the strategy in collaboration with senior management, I moved to Hong Kong. I reported to the CEO and Commercial Director in Bordeaux as well as to the Founder and CFO of the Group in Paris. Overall, the senior management team encouraged creativity to flow, why I was given the possibility to exert my influence. I joined as Business Development Manager and was promoted to Director Asia Pacific in 2017. As I was able to successfully grow the business, I could recruit new team members, leading to me managing a team of six people.

My exposure to international settings over the past 12 years has taught me to manage across cultures. The fact that I had ten nationalities around the dinner table when I turned thirty speaks for itself! I take pride in being a good listener and establishing long-lasting relationships with both internal and external stakeholders from all corners of the world. During my time with Depack, I came to identify growth opportunities and work with brands from a great variety of product categories – including Wine & Spirits, Cosmetics, Fashion & Accessories, Jewellery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Electronics, as well as retailers and airports.

No day looked the same. My activities could range from acting as ambassador for the company and its services at conferences, hosting events and creating international partnerships with agencies, to providing Changi Airport with the concept and design of a garden-themed meeters-greeters hall or a renowned brand with tailor-made furniture for the opening of a champagne island.

We were an official supplier at exhibitions organised by TFWA, Vinexpo and ProWein, and usually delivered about 30-40 projects at each occasion. At these events, I was mostly seen looking for new business, pitching and selling with a consultative approach, and sustaining relationships to build bridges, facilitate collaboration and extend my network. I managed strategic accounts – including Shiseido and Dolce & Gabbana, led the delivery of the company’s largest global project in terms of prestige, value and size and of stands for brands like Chow Tai Fook and Sur Valles Wine Group.

In 2018, I successfully led the Bordeaux and Hong Kong teams during the set up and delivery of 20 projects at Vinexpo Hong Kong, managed suppliers and welcomed clients.

A trend towards harnessing new technologies urged us to improve our digital offering. We carried out market research on new technology solutions, initiated partnerships with experts and Depack exhibited at industry events, such as TFWA Digital Village. Both retailers and brands responded to the call to embrace an innovative approach to challenges, requiring me to efficiently provide support for multicultural projects across different time zones. In Asia, apart from brand specific activations for the cosmetics sector, we came to work on interactive concepts for the T Galleria in Macau, the Fashion Gallery at Changi Airport and the opening of the West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong.

I travelled to Europe frequently to attend exhibitions, meet with the French teams and manage client accounts. I attended Milan fashion week to meet a Hong Kong based fashion brand and view their new collection, enabling our design team to provide suitable design proposals for up-coming activations.

In 2018, the senior management team at Depack Design in Bordeaux took the decision to set up their own businesses. I stayed on in Hong Kong to complete the projects I was involved in at the time but resigned towards the end of the year in order to be able to continue our earlier collaboration and also work with other agencies with a shared vision that I had previously partnered with.
